A mission-driven legal organization based in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time Supervising Attorney to support and lead its Family Law practice. This role includes overseeing a team of attorneys and fellows, co-counseling cases, providing strategic guidance, and fostering an equitable and collaborative work culture. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in family law, demonstrated leadership abilities, and a passion for empowering underserved communities through high-quality legal representation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise attorneys and legal fellows handling family law matters (custody, visitation, child support, alimony, divorce, property distribution, etc.)
Provide strategic and practical guidance on casework, court appearances, written advocacy, discovery, and client counseling
Lead case reviews, provide regular feedback, and model trauma-informed, client-centered legal practices
Monitor timekeeping and ensure compliance with case management policies
Identify and address ethical concerns, support professional growth, and maintain strong staff collaboration
Organizational Leadership & Administration:
Assist with development and implementation of firm-wide policies and procedures
Lead or support internal and external training sessions and workshops
Promote an inclusive, equitable workplace culture
Track and report internal data; contribute to compliance and operations
Casework:
Maintain a modest caseload of family law matters
Co-counsel cases with staff attorneys as needed
Conduct legal screenings and consultations
Participate in stakeholder and pro bono mentoring efforts
Development & Fundraising Support:
Assist with grant writing and data collection for reporting
Contribute ideas for fundraising, social media outreach, and future grant opportunities
At least 2 years of experience in family law practice (legal services or private practice)
Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
Familiarity with DC Superior Court strongly preferred
Demonstrated leadership, time-management, and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to equitable client advocacy
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing with the DC Bar (required)
Advanced oral and written communication skills
Ability to effectively manage and mentor legal staff
Knowledge of legal ethics, litigation strategy, and trauma-informed practice
Proficiency in legal software and document management systems
Bilingual fluency (especially Spanish) is a plus and eligible for additional compensation
$2,500 annual pay differential for Spanish language proficiency
