A leading law firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel with expertise in financial services regulation to join its Financial Services practice group. The role is focused on advising clients on CFTC-related matters, commodities, swaps, derivatives trading, and regulatory compliance. The opportunity includes collaboration with a high-performing legal team representing prominent players in the financial and energy markets.

Location

Duties

• Advise clients on compliance with the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations

• Provide guidance on swaps and derivatives trading and documentation

• Negotiate and draft relevant agreements and legal instruments

• Assist with regulatory and enforcement matters, particularly involving energy and power markets

• Work with a collaborative team handling complex regulatory and transactional work

• Support clients acting as dealers, traders, and end users in financial and energy sectors

Requirements

• 5–10 years of legal experience in financial services regulation

• Proven ability to advise clients on complex legal and regulatory issues

• Experience managing intricate matters in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys across disciplines

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

• Admission to practice in relevant U.S. jurisdiction(s)

Certifications

• Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills

• Strong understanding of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulatory framework

• Proficiency in swaps and derivatives documentation

• Familiarity with FERC regulation, particularly in energy/power trading markets (preferred)

• Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills

• Strong interpersonal and client service skills
