Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm based in Boca Raton, FL, is expanding its Intellectual Property team and seeking a seasoned Patent Agent with a strong foundation in life sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of patent-related projects, collaborate across practice groups, and support clients in protecting and managing innovative technologies, particularly in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

Duties:

• Review scientific disclosures and assess potential patentability across diverse life science technologies

• Draft and file U.S. patent applications with precision and strategic insight

• Manage U.S. patent prosecution and coordinate with international associates for global filings

• Provide research support and technical analysis on patentability, freedom to operate, and prior art

• Contribute to intellectual property due diligence for transactions, licensing, and strategic growth

• Advise internal stakeholders and client teams on IP portfolio development and patent strategy

• Liaise with internal departments and outside professionals to facilitate IP initiatives

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in patent prosecution, either within a law firm or in-house environment

• Demonstrated expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device technologies

• Deep understanding of U.S. and international patent procedures

• Capacity to handle complex legal-technical matters independently and collaboratively

Education:

• Doctorate (Ph.D.) in a life sciences discipline such as biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field

Certifications:

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or eligibility to take the Patent Bar, shortly

Skills:

• Strong analytical and scientific reasoning abilities

• Proficient in patent drafting, legal writing, and scientific communication

• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills

• Comfortable working in a dynamic, cross-functional environment

• Exposure to mechanical or electrical patents is considered a plus
