Patent Agent/Patent Engineer

Profile

A law firm in New York City is seeking a Patent Agent/Patent Engineer with 2+ years of patent prosecution experience. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or M.S. in a relevant technical field such as cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, virology, chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, or an equivalent discipline. A technical background in biological sciences or pharmaceutical sciences is preferred. The candidate should have broad technical knowledge, experience in conducting prior art searches, and proficiency in patent preparation and prosecution. Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct prior art searches to assess patentability and freedom to operate.
• Analyze patents and scientific papers to support patent preparation and prosecution.
• Assist with drafting and filing patent applications.
• Provide technical expertise in the fields of biological sciences or pharmaceutical sciences.
• Collaborate with attorneys to develop patent strategies and provide technical insights.
• Conduct patentability assessments and freedom to operate analyses.
• Support patent prosecution efforts, including responding to office actions and other correspondence with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Keep abreast of advancements in relevant scientific and technical fields.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. or M.S. in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, virology, chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, or a related technical field.
• Technical background in biological sciences or pharmaceutical sciences preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Experience conducting prior art searches and performing patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Education:

• Ph.D. or M.S. in a relevant technical field.

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
