Profile
A highly respected law firm is seeking a qualified Patent Agent with an advanced degree in chemistry or a related discipline to join its Intellectual Property practice. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience, preferably with additional exposure to patent portfolio analysis, due diligence, or other IP transactional matters. The position provides a dynamic and collaborative environment, with the flexibility of a hybrid work model.
Draft and prepare patent applications, including technical and scientific disclosures
Prepare responses to U.S. and international patent office communications
Conduct analysis and reporting on the scientific and technological aspects of inventions
Investigate specific technologies to support patent drafting and prosecution
Interface with clients, inventors, and legal professionals to clarify scientific concepts
Identify and address complex patent-related issues
Serve as liaison between inventors and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO)
Communicate with clients, legal staff, and USPTO personnel via phone, email, and meetings
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism across all levels of interaction
Prioritize and manage multiple tasks under time-sensitive conditions
Stay informed on emerging scientific trends relevant to client innovations
Participate in continuing education to maintain field expertise and accreditation
Maintain and analyze IP-related internal data and reports
1–4 years of experience in patent prosecution
Experience in patent portfolio analysis, IP transactions, or due diligence preferred
Familiarity with PTAB proceedings is a plus
Strong research, analytical, and investigative skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-volume environment
Availability to work overtime, including evenings or weekends, as needed
Master’s or Ph.D. in one of the following:
Chemistry
Organic Chemistry
Medicinal Chemistry
Biochemistry
Chemical Engineering
Qualified to sit for the U.S. Patent Bar
Preferred: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Strong technical writing and communication abilities
Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely
Knowledge of patent law principles and current IP trends
Familiarity with research methods, technical analysis, and scientific literature
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Familiarity with prosecution docketing and time-tracking systems
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and multitask
Commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality
