Job Overview:
A San Francisco-based law firm is seeking an associate to join its growing practice focused on digital risk, regulatory compliance, and information security. This opportunity offers the chance to support a variety of corporate and transactional matters with an emphasis on privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity law across a wide range of cutting-edge industries, including AI, fintech, and cloud technologies.

Duties:

• Advise on regulatory frameworks related to data protection, information security, and global privacy laws

• Provide strategic guidance on privacy and data-related aspects of mergers, acquisitions, public offerings, and other corporate transactions

• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements involving data sharing, processing, and cross-border transfers

• Conduct due diligence and risk assessments in connection with corporate transactions

• Stay current with regulatory developments and enforcement trends in the privacy and cybersecurity space

• Collaborate closely with clients in high-growth technology sectors, tailoring legal advice to evolving digital business models

Requirements:

• 3-5 years of experience handling privacy, data, or cybersecurity issues within transactional or corporate practices

• Prior experience working on mergers and acquisitions, securities, or commercial transactions is required

• Familiarity with technology industry issues and data regulatory policy is preferred

• Certifications such as CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional)are  considered advantageous

• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills required

• Excellent academic background

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

• Admission to practice in California or the ability to waive in

Certifications:

• CIPP or similar privacy certification preferred

Skills:

• Deep understanding of U.S. and international data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)

• Proficiency in identifying data-related risks and integrating legal advice into business strategy

• Strong drafting and negotiation capabilities

• Ability to manage multiple projects across diverse client portfolios

• Collaborative, client-focused approach with sound judgment and business acumen
