Duties:
Handle complex environmental litigation matters across state, federal, and administrative courts
Draft and argue motions, conduct discovery, and represent clients in regulatory proceedings
Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, and other legal documents
Support senior attorneys on high-profile environmental cases and regulatory dockets
Engage with clients including individuals, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations
Contribute to firm initiatives involving community outreach and legal advocacy
Travel across North Carolina for hearings, meetings, and site inspections when necessary
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental litigation or related complex litigation
Demonstrated experience with motion practice, discovery, and court appearances
Ability to manage multiple dockets independently while collaborating within a legal team
Interest in environmental law, water quality, land use, or energy-related legal issues
Willingness to engage with community and professional organizations
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in the State of North Carolina, or eligibility to waive in
Additional admissions (e.g., Fourth Circuit, U.S. Supreme Court, other state or federal courts) are a plus
Skills:
Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking
Self-directed, solution-focused, and able to handle complex matters with minimal supervision
Effective in managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable working in collaborative and multidisciplinary teams
