Job Overview: A law firm seeks a skilled and experienced Pre-Trial Briefing & Discovery Attorney to join its team in Houston, TX. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing complex pre-trial motions and facilitating the discovery process for personal injury cases. The position requires a high level of legal research, writing, and the ability to collaborate effectively with trial attorneys to strategize litigation efforts. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to supporting clients seeking justice, ensuring that their legal rights are protected throughout the process.

Duties:

  • Draft and argue various pre-trial motions, including motions for summary judgment, motions to compel discovery, and motions for protective orders.
  • Provide in-depth legal research and analysis on trial court matters, including evidentiary issues and legal precedents.
  • Prepare trial briefs to clarify complex legal concepts and inform the court.
  • Assist in the discovery process, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, and reviewing medical and accident records.
  • Review witness statements, insurance policies, and expert reports to ensure thorough case preparation.
  • Collaborate with trial attorneys to develop litigation strategies and ensure alignment with trial objectives.
  • Participate in jury trials by providing written arguments on legal issues and supporting trial preparation.
  • Advise clients on the likely outcome of appeals and help formulate strategies for post-trial motions.
  • Monitor appellate court decisions and apply relevant legal changes to ongoing cases.
  • Work closely with other firm members to maintain high-quality legal standards and outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership with the State Bar of Texas and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pre-trial briefing and discovery, focusing on personal injury law.
  • Expertise in Texas District Court procedures and civil appellate processes.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active and good standing membership with the State Bar of Texas.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical writing abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Detailed knowledge of personal injury law and pre-trial motions.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex cases independently.
  • Proficient in collaborating with trial teams and shaping legal strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
