Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Real Estate Attorney to oversee a broad spectrum of real estate matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and financing. This role demands strategic legal counsel, risk management, and leadership of transaction teams to support a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential projects. Location: San Diego, California.

Duties

• Lead due diligence efforts for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, and joint ventures.
• Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, commercial and residential leases, easements, and development agreements.
• Advise on zoning, land use, entitlements, environmental compliance, and permit approvals.
• Coordinate closings, prepare closing checklists, and resolve title, survey, and escrow issues.
• Structure and document financing transactions, including construction loans and permanent financing.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff in document preparation and file management.
• Manage client relationships and consult with lenders, brokers, title companies, and government agencies.

Requirements

• Fifteen years of experience practicing real estate law at a law firm or in-house.
• Active membership in the California State Bar, in good standing.
• Demonstrated success handling complex real estate transactions and closings.
• Proven ability to lead deal teams and deliver strategic legal solutions under tight timelines.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and project management skills.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA accredited law school.

Certifications

• Licensed to practice law in California.
• Any additional real estate, land use, or mediation certifications, if held.

Skills

• Expert knowledge of commercial and residential real estate law, financing structures, and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency with legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and transaction management systems.
