Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Mid-Level Litigation Associate in Santa Barbara, California. The successful candidate will join the Business Litigation Group, handling commercial and business disputes, employment litigation, trusts and estates, real estate, and land use matters. This role requires three to five years of experience, with opportunities to transition to assignments with greater responsibility.

Duties

• Draft pleadings, pre-trial motions, and oppositions.
• Initiate and respond to written discovery requests.
• Take and defend depositions of clients, opponents, and third-party witnesses.
• Conduct thorough legal and factual research for court filings and client advice.
• Communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel.
• Attend pre-trial court appearances.
• Assist senior litigation counsel in arbitrations and trials.
• Prepare post-trial motions and appellate briefs.
• Delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants, supervising for accuracy and completeness.

Requirements

• Admitted to practice before the California Bar.
• Three to five years' experience, preferably in civil litigation.
• Excellent reading comprehension, writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Strong decision-making, critical thinking, and active listening skills.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Ability to quickly learn new software required for litigation support.
• Proficient in legal research (Westlaw) and other online tools for efficient filings.
• Ability to take direction and work independently with minimal supervision.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admitted to the California Bar.

Skills

• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in litigation support software.
