Biotech Patent Agent

Profile

A law firm located in St. Louis is currently seeking a qualified Biotech Patent Agent with 2-6 years of experience. The candidate must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and possess a strong educational background in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. The role requires a candidate with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and/or Doctorate degree in the specified disciplines and at least 2 years of laboratory experience.

Duties:

• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches in the biotech field.
• Draft and prosecute patent applications in compliance with USPTO regulations.
• Collaborate with inventors and scientific teams to understand and evaluate inventions.
• Provide technical expertise in biotechnology to support patent portfolio development.
• Analyze and respond to office actions and communicate with patent examiners.
• Stay current with developments in biotech and intellectual property law.

Requirements:

• Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Master’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Doctorate in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.

Experience:

• 2-6 years of overall experience.
• 2 years of laboratory experience.

Certifications:

Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of biotechnology concepts and principles.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive patent searches.
• Excellent drafting and prosecution skills for patent applications.
