Job Overview

A Washington, DC-based law firm is actively seeking a seasoned attorney with extensive patent litigation experience to join its intellectual property team. The role offers the opportunity to take on lead responsibilities in complex patent litigation matters, including pre-trial strategy, trial execution, and appellate work. This position is ideal for a legal professional eager to play a pivotal role in high-stakes patent disputes while mentoring junior colleagues in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Duties

  • Lead and manage all stages of patent litigation from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal

  • Draft and respond to pleadings, discovery, and dispositive motions

  • Prepare infringement and invalidity contentions and manage claim construction (Markman) proceedings

  • Conduct and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses

  • Develop and execute litigation strategy across venues including district courts, the ITC, and the PTAB (inter partes reviews)

  • Draft briefs for trial and Federal Circuit appeals

  • Collaborate with clients, co-counsel, and internal legal teams to drive case strategy and execution

  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior legal staff and associates

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in patent litigation

  • Proven background managing patent cases at the district court level and through appeal

  • Familiarity with inter partes review (IPR) proceedings

  • Significant experience handling technical patent matters in the fields of electronics or computer science

  • Prior first-chair or substantial second-chair trial involvement preferred

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field preferred

Certifications

  • ActiveBar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • USPTO registration (preferred)

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities
