A prominent law firm based in Detroit, MI, is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Patent Partner to join its expanding Intellectual Property group. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned patent attorney with a portable book of business and a vision to help lead and shape a growing patent practice. Duties:

• Lead patent prosecution matters across various industries such as automotive, life sciences, healthcare, and manufacturing

• Advise clients on patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and infringement matters

• Manage and develop intellectual property portfolios for a range of clients

• Drive client engagement by maintaining strong existing relationships and developing new business opportunities

• Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term strategic planning and expansion of the patent group

• Mentor junior IP attorneys and contribute to talent development

• Support integrated legal services by working closely with attorneys across different practice areas

Requirements:

• Minimum of 6-10 years of experience focused on patent prosecution and strategic IP counseling

• Demonstrated ability to manage a book of business and retain client relationships

• Experience advising clients in one or more sectors such as tech, healthcare, automotive, or industrial manufacturing

• Strong leadership capabilities and a proactive, growth-driven mindset

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex legal and technical matters clearly

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the State Bar

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
