Job Overview:
A leading Bay Area law firm is seeking a dedicated Criminal Defense Attorney to join its growing misdemeanor and post-conviction relief practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with at least two years of experience in criminal law who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced, and mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate will have strong courtroom experience, excellent legal writing skills, and the ability to manage an independent caseload. The position is based in Oakland, CA and requires in-person collaboration with other attorneys and support staff.

Location:

• Oakland, CA

Duties:

• Manage a caseload of approximately 40–60 misdemeanor and post-conviction relief cases

• Represent clients during arraignments, settlement conferences, and hearings

• Make court appearances in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Solano, Sacramento, and other Bay Area counties

• Conduct legal research and draft motions, subpoenas, records requests, and related legal documents

• Perform trial preparation including evidence review, client consultation, expert coordination, and strategy development

• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, investigators, and experts to deliver high-quality legal representation

Requirements:

• Active license to practice law in the state of California

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in criminal defense preferred

• Strong organizational and case management skills

• Ability to work independently after an initial onboarding and training period

• Willingness to work onsite from the firm’s Oakland office

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Licensed to practice law in California

• Admission to federal jurisdictions a plus (can be arranged by the firm)
