Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Patent Agent specializing in biomedical devices for its Dallas, TX office. The ideal candidate will have over three years of experience in patent prosecution and a background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, or related medical device technology.

Duties

  • Prepare draft patent applications and incorporate scientific aspects of inventions.
  • Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
  • Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
  • Investigate general and specific technologies as needed.
  • Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
  • Identify and analyze complex patent issues and implement solutions.
  • Communicate with inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Interact professionally with clients, lawyers, and staff.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
  • Stay updated on technology trends and patent prosecution issues.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, or related field preferred.
  • Qualified to sit for the patent bar; preferably licensed to practice before USPTO.
  • Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of patent documentation drafting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of time management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with prosecution docketing systems.

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred; Master's or PhD in a related field is advantageous.

 

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

 

Skills

  • Ability to analyze and interpret research findings.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical responsibilities.
