Duties:
Legal Representation
Handle all aspects of family law and matrimonial matters including divorce, child custody, spousal support, child support, and equitable distribution
Represent clients in court hearings, settlement negotiations, and mediations
Draft motions, pleadings, agreements, and other legal documents
Provide strategic legal counsel and ensure clients are fully informed of their rights and options
Client Management
Act as lead counsel and primary point of contact for clients
Maintain consistent and empathetic communication with clients
Build long-term relationships and contribute to client retention efforts
Supervision & Mentorship
Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff
Review and provide constructive feedback on case work and documentation
Participate in training and professional development of junior team members
Case Management
Manage a high-volume caseload and meet billing goals
Track case progress using legal case management software
Coordinate with administrative staff on scheduling and client communication
Negotiation & Litigation
Lead negotiation efforts in contested and uncontested matters
Formulate innovative legal strategies for both litigation and settlement scenarios
Protect client interests while promoting efficient dispute resolution
Legal Research & Professional Development
Stay current with developments in family and matrimonial law
Conduct legal research to support case arguments and strategies
Attend legal seminars and workshops when applicable
Business Development
Contribute to firm growth through client relationship building and referrals
Represent the firm at networking and legal industry events
Maintain a visible presence in the legal and local community
Administrative Duties
Complete billing, timekeeping, and documentation accurately and on time
Collaborate with administrative teams to manage collections and financial tasks
Ensure compliance with firm procedures and relevant legal regulations
Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs)
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in matrimonial or family law (litigators with related experience may be considered)
Trial and litigation experience in family law preferred
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to practice law in the State of New York (active and in good standing)
Skills:
Advanced knowledge of divorce, custody, support, and property distribution laws
Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills
Leadership and mentoring capabilities
Exceptional interpersonal communication and client service skills
Proficiency in legal research tools and case management systems
