Assistant General Counsel Healthcare Data and Privacy
The candidate will serve as legal counsel and partner to the firm business units as assigned, under the supervision of Senior Assistant General Counsel. Draft, review and negotiate supporting legal documents, including appropriate agreements and related documentation. Analyze legislation, regulations, and court decisions of interest to the firm. Maintain technology and privacy subject matter expertise and conduct highly complex work critical to the firm. Serve as legal counsel to assigned the firm business units, by providing objective, thorough, timely, and informed legal advice to management on complex legal issues. Negotiate, draft and finalize contracts supporting the firm's mission-related and revenue-generating activities, inbound and outbound license agreements. Provide legal advice, guidance and training on the firm healthcare data privacy- and security-related initiatives, which may include data licensing, personal data collection activities, activities subject to HIPAA and other governing data privacy laws, data analytics, fraud and abuse/reimbursement, wearables, and other emerging technology matters. Assist management’s assessment of the legal and business risk of various courses of action to support the firm initiatives, policies, and procedures, including guiding the firm leadership and stakeholders on legal, privacy, data protection, and other applicable compliance requirements. Provide counsel and transactional solutions to management and employees on a variety of legal questions related to general corporate issues, strategic relationships, and regulatory compliance. Draft and review a wide variety of business agreements and related documents, as well as regulatory communications and filings. Review, analyze, interpret and disseminate new laws and regulations affecting nonprofit organizations and the firm initiatives (especially as related to data privacy), and aid in implementing any required changes. J.D. from an accredited leading law school is required. Should have 5-7 years of attorney experience, with experience in data privacy and emerging technologies. Exposure to both a law firm and a corporate environment preferred. Healthcare law experience a plus. Experience in effectively collaborating in cross-functional business and legal teams to address and resolve legal issues to achieve the desired business units’ outcomes is required. Should be licensed to practice law in Illinois.
