A law firm seeks an attorney to join its Mankato, MN office (with occasional work from its New Ulm location), handling both estate planning/trust administration and litigation. Duties
Manage a varied caseload from inception through resolution in estate planning, trust administration, and related litigation
Cultivate and maintain client relationships, with the freedom to select and develop your client roster
Proactively identify and pursue business opportunities within the local community and beyond
Draft and execute estate plans, trust documents, wills, and related pleadings; oversee all phases of probate and trust disputes
Conduct all aspects of litigation practice: research, pleadings, discovery (written and depositions), motion practice, mediations, and court appearances
Prepare for and participate in temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction hearings, as well as trial and arbitration proceedings
Collaborate with colleagues on strategy, share insights, and participate in team case‐management meetings
Stay abreast of changes in estate and trust law, as well as emerging litigation tactics in related fields
Requirements
Admission to the Minnesota bar (New York or other state bar admissions a plus)
Minimum of two years of substantive experience managing employment, contract, or trust‐related litigation matters (experience in restrictive covenant or trust disputes is helpful but not required)
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters on time‐sensitive schedules
Strong working knowledge of electronic discovery tools and protocols
Exceptional legal writing and persuasive communication skills
Proven research abilities and attention to nuanced statutory or case law developments
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset within a team environment
Self‐start attitude with the ability to identify and resolve issues promptly
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited ABA‐authorized law school
Certifications
Active membership in the Minnesota State Bar Association (additional admission to New York, Pennsylvania, or Connecticut bar is a plus)
Skills
Advanced proficiency in drafting trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and related estate documents
Proficiency in all phases of litigation: from initial pleadings to discovery, motion practice, mediation, and trial support
Skilled in developing and executing e‐discovery protocols, including document review platforms and data management
Ability to conduct thorough factual and legal research using tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
Excellent negotiation and client‐counseling abilities, including effective representation in mediation and settlement conferences
Strong attention to detail and organizational aptitude for managing a diverse docket
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with administrative support and paralegals
