The
Military and Veteran Services Office (MVSO)
invites applications for a
Service Access Specialist
to serve as a VA School Certifying Official (SCO) for the University of Montana (UM), Missoula College, and Bitterroot College. This position is responsible for ensuring that the University of Montana remains in compliance with all Federal and State regulations, Department of Defense policies, and VA regulations as part of the daily standard operating procedures of the Military and Veteran Services Office (MVSO).
The Service Access Specialist is responsible for providing veterans, family members, and parent’s accurate, up to date information regarding education benefit chapters, eligibility for VA education benefits, maintaining FERPA regulations, and ensuring that the information given is pertinent, accurate, and relayed in a courteous, professional manner. This position is responsible for acting as a liaison to other administrative offices to ensure submission of accurate tuition and fees into federal systems. The Service Access Specialist is responsible for the management or supervision of classified staff members hired within the MVSO.
Required Skills
Knowledge of basic advising practices.
Excellent oral and writing communication skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional follow-through skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and adapt communication styles quickly to meet individual student needs.
Ability to problem solve and work independently.
Ability to assist with outreach events, which requires mobility and some physical demands.
Preparing and submitting audit information.
Ability to operate computer systems and programs to access, analyze and use information and data.
Familiarity with higher education processes and university systems.
Minimum Required Experience
High school diploma (or equivalency), as well as at least three (3) years of experience working directly with US veterans (or experience as a veteran); or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
