Junior to Midlevel Patent Agent

Profile

A law firm based in Chicago is actively seeking a Junior to Midlevel Patent Agent specializing in Life Sciences. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering, and at least 2 years of patent prosecution experience. This role requires excellent communication skills, business judgment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Duties:

• Conduct patent searches and analyze prior art to assess patentability
• Draft and prosecute patent applications, responses to office actions, and appeals
• Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and clients to gather necessary information for patent filings
• Provide technical and legal support to attorneys in patent litigation matters
• Conduct IP due diligence, freedom-to-operate analyses, and validity assessments

Requirements:

• Degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry, or B.S. in Chemical Engineering
• Preferably admitted to the USPTO
• Minimum of 2 years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm or in-house
• Excellent academic credentials
• Strong oral and written communication skills
