Job Overview: A law firm in Washington, D.C., seeks a dynamic and motivated Patent Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate will be crucial in meeting with inventors, drafting patent applications, and prosecuting cases before the USPTO. This position requires collaboration with clients and attorneys to develop effective claim strategies and manage a diverse docket of cases.

Job Details:

  • Meeting with inventors and drafting patent applications for filing in the USPTO.
  • Prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, including conducting interviews with Examiners.
  • Collaborating with clients and BoMc attorneys to develop and refine claim strategies.
  • Proactively managing a docket of cases across a spectrum of clients, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
  • Drafting noninfringement and invalidity opinions.
  • Conducting due diligence investigations and performing freedom-to-operate and landscape analyses under the supervision of firm partners.

Requirements:

  • Backgrounds of particular interest include electrical engineering, computer/software, mechanical engineering, chemistry/biochemistry, biology, physics, and IPR/litigation experience.
  • Positive attitude toward client service.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and professional service skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Self-starter with a commitment to success and personal and professional growth.
  • Enjoys being involved in all aspects of a vibrant law firm team.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, chemistry, biology, physics).
  • Patent Agent registration with the USPTO is required.

Skills:

  • Strong drafting and analytical skills for patent applications.
  • Legal research and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
  • Proficient in managing and prioritizing a docket of cases.
