Job Title: Civil Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in Washington, DC, is seeking a dynamic Associate Attorney with early-career litigation experience to support its appellate and civil litigation caseload. This hybrid position offers the chance to engage in all phases of litigation, from case initiation through resolution, in a practice that emphasizes thoughtful advocacy and legal precision.

Duties:

• Manage case matters through all stages, including discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trial

• Conduct and defend depositions

• Draft pleadings, motions, and briefs with strong legal reasoning

• Collaborate with partners and team members on strategy and case development

• Participate in mediations, court appearances, and appellate proceedings

• Analyze complex legal issues and develop compelling arguments

• Ensure timely and effective client communication

Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year of judicial clerkship or 1-3 years of litigation experience at a private law firm

• Demonstrated proficiency in handling discovery, depositions, and dispositive motions

• Admission to practice in at least one of the following: Virginia (VA), Maryland (MD), or the District of Columbia (DC)

• Willingness to obtain DC licensure within one year if not already admitted

• Additional Bar memberships in New York (NY), New Jersey (NJ), or West Virginia (WV) are advantageous

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active and good standing with a State Bar (DC, VA, or MD required)

Skills:

• Exceptional legal research and writing capabilities

• Clear and persuasive oral and written communication

• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities

• Attention to detail and organizational efficiency

• Capable of managing multiple active cases in a fast-paced environment
