Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Hartford, CT, is actively seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to support its intellectual property group with a strong emphasis on life sciences innovation. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines on patent strategy, prosecution, and portfolio management initiatives, helping clients protect breakthrough technologies in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

Duties:

• Assess the patentability of scientific innovations across diverse technology platforms

• Prepare and file domestic patent applications

• Manage U.S. patent prosecution and coordinate with international associates on global filings

• Conduct research and analysis on patent law, competitive landscapes, and IP trends

• Support IP due diligence reviews and strategic portfolio assessments

• Work alongside attorneys, inventors, and business stakeholders to guide IP strategies

• Serve as a liaison between internal teams and external collaborators on patent matters

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably in a legal or corporate environment

• Expertise in life sciences, with emphasis on biotechnology, pharmaceutical formulations, or medical technology

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (or in the process of qualifying)

• Prior exposure to mechanical or electrical innovations is advantageous

• Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving mindset

Education:

• Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related discipline

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration (or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar)

Skills:

• Deep understanding of scientific and technical documentation

• Strong written and verbal communication

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams

• Proficiency with patent databases and research tools
