Job Overview: A law firm specializing in veterans benefits seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join its veterans benefits practice group in Charlottesville, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to advocating for disabled veterans and their dependents.

Duties:

  • Represent veterans and their dependents in claims for disability and other benefits before the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), including the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA).
  • Handle cases before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC).
  • Conduct legal research, prepare briefs, and present oral arguments supporting veterans' claims.
  • Maintain communication with clients, providing updates and guidance throughout the legal process.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff within the firm to manage and prioritize caseload effectively.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar or eligibility for admission by waiver.
  • Strong interest in veterans law and advocacy, demonstrated through coursework, clinical experience, or previous legal practice.
  • Experience representing veterans in disability claims is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in legal research and writing.
  • Ability to advocate persuasively in both written briefs and oral arguments.
