Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its insurance defense practice as a Partner in Portland, OR. This role offers a unique opportunity for a litigator to assume a senior position without the need for an existing book of business. The successful candidate will have experience in insurance defense litigation and will lead case management, client relations, and mentoring of associate attorneys and staff. The practice operates throughout Oregon and Washington.

Duties

• Defend insureds in litigation matters, including general liability, personal injury, property damage, and commercial disputes.
• Manage all aspects of litigated cases, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
• Draft briefs, memos, and pleadings.
• Represent clients in court, depositions, mediations/arbitrations, and trial.
• Collaborate with clients to provide timely coverage advice.
• Maintain ownership and independence in case assignments.

Requirements

• A Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Oregon and/or Washington.
• 7+ years of experience in insurance defense litigation.
• Trial experience is a plus but not required.
• Professional demeanor with strong client-relations and communication skills.
• Responsive and organized, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in Oregon and/or Washington.

Skills

• Strategic case analysis and risk assessment.
• Effective communication with clients and insurance company representatives.
