Volunteer/Intern, Fall Semester
The intern will work in the Community Protection Division. Will attempt to negotiate a fair settlement between consumers and businesses to keep issues out of court, in matters including auto repair, retail sales, contractors, home repair and more. Consumer complaints may originate in-person, or by phone, email or mail. Will also provide information and resources to all community members on issues of consumer protection such as unwanted phone calls and solicitations, identity theft, undertaking home repairs, banking and credit issues, and debt collection matters. Will also assist both county and district court DAs with legal research, drafting motions, and trial preparation. Will have the opportunity to observe trials and participate in training opportunities when available. Law students authorized to appear under the Student Practice Act will have the opportunity to appear in court to argue bond, dispose cases, and prepare and conduct motions hearings and jury trials.
