Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a mid- to senior-level Associate Attorney to join its Tax & Benefits Practice Group, specifically within the transactional tax subgroup serving clients in the energy industry. This role involves firm-wide collaboration and direct client interaction, with opportunities to work on complex tax structuring, partnership agreements, and opinion letters. Ideal candidates will bring both technical expertise and strategic insight into the evolving tax landscape, especially as it relates to energy-sector transactions.
Location:
Duties:
Advise clients on transactional tax matters with a strong focus on the energy industry
Draft and review complex partnership agreements and tax-related transaction documents
Prepare formal legal opinions on tax-related issues
Support energy-sector clients in structuring tax-efficient transactions
Collaborate with attorneys across departments on deal teams and strategic tax planning
Provide counsel on evolving tax regulations, particularly those impacting renewable energy, traditional energy, and infrastructure
Participate in client development activities and professional organization involvement
Engage in firm-sponsored speaking and writing opportunities to enhance thought leadership
Requirements:
Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in transactional tax, with a focus on energy industry clients
Prior experience drafting partnership agreements and issuing tax opinions strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to work directly with clients and across multi-office teams
Law firm background preferred; large accounting firm experience may also be considered
Strong academic track record and technical tax acumen
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Active and in good standing with the bar in the state where the candidate intends to practice
Skills:
Deep understanding of tax code implications for partnerships and energy transactions
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Collaborative approach and ability to work with cross-functional teams
Thought leadership or involvement in professional tax organizations a plus
