Duties

• Represent clients in IRS audits, appeals, and collection matters.
• Handle civil and criminal tax litigation, including trials and administrative proceedings.
• Develop legal strategies for resolving complex tax disputes.
• Prepare and file motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and provide written analyses on tax controversy matters.
• Advise clients on potential tax liabilities and defense strategies.
• Negotiate settlements with taxing authorities.
• Stay updated on federal and state tax laws and regulations.

Requirements

• Active member in good standing with Michigan State Bar; U.S. Tax Court admission preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in tax controversy and civil/criminal tax litigation.
• Strong understanding of IRS administrative procedures and tax court practice.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education

• LLM in Taxation preferred.

Certifications

• Admission to the Michigan State Bar.

Skills

• Experience with offshore voluntary disclosures and FBAR issues.
• Background in white-collar criminal defense is a plus.
