Job Title: Natural Resources Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A law firm based in Denver, CO, is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Associate Attorney with a background in environmental and natural resources law. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a respected practice representing clients in litigation, transactional, and regulatory matters involving water rights, environmental quality, energy development, and land use. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive mindset, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to develop actionable legal strategies across a broad spectrum of natural resources issues.
Duties:
Represent clients in regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters involving:
Water rights and water quality
Public lands, including BLM and USFS permitting
Hazardous waste contamination and enforcement
Air quality and Clean Air Act (CAA) compliance
Clean Water Act (CWA) issues
NEPA and ESA evaluations
Assist in agency rulemakings, environmental permitting, and natural resource development projects
Draft legal opinions, regulatory analyses, and compliance documentation
Participate in litigation and administrative proceedings at the state and federal levels
Conduct due diligence for infrastructure development, mining, oil & gas, and energy-related transactions
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including policy advisors, litigators, and corporate counsel
Requirements:
1-5 years of experience in a broad environmental or natural resources law practice
Prior involvement with environmental statutes such as NEPA, ESA, CAA, CWA
Experience with agency processes, permitting, or enforcement actions
Familiarity with issues related to water rights, mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure development
Demonstrated legal writing, research, and analysis skills
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple complex assignments
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the Colorado Bar preferred (or eligibility for prompt admission)
Skills:
Excellent legal research and drafting proficiency
Strong verbal communication and persuasive argumentation
Strategic problem-solving in regulatory or litigation contexts
Capacity to interpret and apply complex statutory frameworks
Collaborative team player with the ability to operate independently
Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality client service
