Senior Associate, TVO

The candidate working at teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School that consistently ranks as a national leader in NIH funding, reports to the Executive Director of the TVO. This position is responsible for directing outside patent counsel on the drafting and prosecution of patents and marketing & licensing intellectual property assets arising from company's research programs to for-profit companies for commercial development. The Sr. Associate, along with licensing associates, will also be responsible for drafting and negotiating sponsored research and other supportive agreements (MTAs, CDAs, SRAs, JIAs). Will have extensive interaction with company principal investigators, Department and Division Chiefs, administrators, external pharmaceutical and biotechnology company representatives, venture capitalists, lawyers, and entrepreneurs. Evaluates new invention disclosures at company, and develops a strategy to protect these discoveries and directs outside patent counsel in the prosecution of patents,. Advises researchers on the preparation of invention disclosures, and on matters related to the protection and licensing of intellectual property, consistent with company internal policies on research and technology transfer. Participates in the design and implementation of programs and initiatives for increasing the participation of faculty and staff in technology transfer activities. Develops commercialization strategies for company technologies, including identifying biopharma and medical device companies capable of licensing and commercializing these technologies. Negotiates drafts & maintains intellectual property agreements including license agreements, sponsored research agreements with industry, patent management agreements, & material transfer agreements. Must have the ability to draft language unique to each intellectual property agreement while remaining consistent with hospital mission and policy. Designs and executes, along with the Executive Director of the TVO, and other Senior Associate(s), innovative strategies for increasing licensing and collaborative research opportunities with a goal of increasing research revenue and maximizing the commercial potential of company's intellectual property portfolio. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: One Indirect Reports: None.
