Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Counsel-track attorney to join its Business Litigation practice in New York. The position focuses on representing companies and financial institutions in single-plaintiff litigation, with particular emphasis on disputes involving consumer lending, mortgage-related matters, contracts, and loan agreements. This is a non-partner-track counsel position with a reduced billable-hour requirement.

Duties:

• Represent companies and financial institutions in single-plaintiff litigation matters.
• Handle disputes involving consumer loans, contracts, loan agreements, and loan modifications.
• Manage wrongful foreclosure claims and other mortgage-related litigation.
• Represent clients in New York state and federal courts.
• Manage litigation matters in accordance with applicable civil procedure requirements.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and other litigation documents.
• Prepare for, take, and defend depositions.
• Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategies.
• Communicate with clients regarding case developments, strategy, and potential resolutions.
• Handle matters efficiently through various stages of the litigation process.

Requirements:

• At least 3 years of relevant litigation experience.
• Experience representing companies and/or financial institutions in single-plaintiff litigation.
• Experience with consumer lending litigation, including contracts, loan agreements, loan modifications, wrongful foreclosure, and other mortgage-related disputes, is strongly preferred.
• Experience appearing in New York state and federal courts is strongly preferred.
• Excellent understanding of civil procedure.
• Experience taking and defending depositions.
• Experience drafting pleadings and other litigation documents.
• Strong academic credentials.
• New York bar admission is required.
• Bar admission in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and/or Pennsylvania is advantageous.

Education and Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in New York.
• Additional bar admission in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and/or Pennsylvania is preferred.
