Public Finance Career Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A Boston-based law firm is seeking a Career Associate Attorney to support its public finance practice. This opportunity is ideal for attorneys who enjoy working on a broad array of financing transactions for governmental entities, nonprofit organizations, and qualified private projects. The role includes significant exposure to municipal and structured finance across numerous sectors, with the option to pursue a long-term legal career outside the partner track in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Duties:
Provide legal support on tax-exempt and taxable financings for public infrastructure, nonprofit institutions, and eligible private-sector developments
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of financing documents, disclosures, and closing materials
Conduct due diligence for bond issuances, securities offerings, and financial compliance
Participate in transactions involving municipal issuers, 501(c)(3) borrowers, Indian tribal governments, and public-private partnerships
Contribute to matters such as IRS audits, SEC inquiries, enforcement actions, secondary market products, and complex restructurings
Maintain client relationships and provide advisory support throughout deal lifecycles
Assist in training and mentoring junior attorneys or staff when needed
Requirements:
2 to 4 years of legal experience, preferably in public finance or other transactional law practices
Familiarity with municipal finance instruments, securities regulations, and closing processes
Ability to manage multiple transactions and deadlines independently and collaboratively
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and client service skills
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active bar membership in Massachusetts or eligibility to waive in
Skills:
Proficiency in legal drafting and transactional document preparation
High attention to detail, with strong analytical and issue-spotting capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to interpret complex financial and legal concepts and communicate them effectively to stakeholders
Commitment to professional development in the public finance sector
