Associate Attorney – Civil Defense & Insurance Coverage Litigation

Job Overview:

A highly respected defense law firm based in Chicago, IL is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with 4–7 years of experience to support its growing civil litigation and insurance coverage practice. Location:

• Chicago, IL

Duties:

• Manage case files involving insurance defense, personal injury, premises liability, insurance broker errors and omissions, and municipal and coverage litigation

• Handle cases from inception through trial, including depositions, motion practice, and court hearings (in-person and remote)

• Draft coverage opinions and trial strategy reports for clients

• Conduct examinations under oath and prepare reports for insurers and corporate clients

• Draft and respond to interrogatories, document requests, and requests for admission

• Prosecute declaratory judgment actions related to coverage and defend against contractual and extracontractual claims

• Collaborate with partners and provide timely communication to clients

Requirements:

• 4–7 years of litigation experience, preferably in civil defense or insurance law

• Admitted to practice and in good standing with the Illinois Bar

• Deposition experience and familiarity with both state and federal court procedures preferred

• Prior experience with U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois is an asset

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active Illinois State Bar license required

• Admission to federal court(s) preferred but not mandatory

• Strong legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills

• Excellent organizational and analytical abilities

• Effective communication with clients and team members

• Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
