Job Overview

A law firm seeks a talented Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property & Technology practice in Kansas City. The ideal candidate will have a background in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, with at least five years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution.

Duties

• Harvest inventions directly from clients.
• Advise clients on invention disclosures, patent strategy, and prosecution.
• Evaluate cutting-edge technology.
• Draft and prosecute US patent applications.
• Guide prosecution of foreign patent applications.
• Contribute to opinion work and client counseling.
• Support litigation efforts.
• Provide technical support across the practice.

Requirements

• At least 5 years as a patent agent at a law firm or in-house.
• Experience with software patents is a plus.
• Must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Education

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Certifications

• Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
