Job Overview: A law firm in New York City is seeking a Mid-Level Software/Computer Science Patent Associate Attorney to manage and prosecute patent applications in the United States and provide expert guidance to clients in electrical, computer sciences, and software matters. This role will involve extensive involvement in patent prosecution, technical expertise, and client communication, offering opportunities for growth in a collegial environment.

Duties:

• Prosecute patent applications in the United States and direct foreign patent prosecution.
• Act as an expert advisor to clients on electrical, computer sciences, and software matters.
• Manage all aspects of patent prosecution practice, including docket management and communication with the USPTO, other attorneys, and clients.
• Evaluate invention disclosure materials and prepare and prosecute patent applications for software inventions, including machine learning.
• Provide technical expertise in computer science, software, and related areas.
• Conduct IP due diligence reviews and evaluate patentability, freedom to operate, and ongoing patent issues.
• Liaise with clients regarding domestic and foreign patent application processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Conduct and participate in client meetings regarding patent research and application processes.
• Collaborate across practice groups and offices.
• Receive training opportunities with increasing responsibilities.
• Have opportunities for advancement in a collegial environment.
• Work remotely two days per week.

Requirements:

• 3-5 years of experience in software/computer science patent law.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field.
• Registered and in good standing with the USPTO.
• Familiarity with the Application Packaging Standard, APIs in software development, machine learning, and SaaS platforms.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong team-oriented mentality and the ability to thrive in fast-paced work environments.
• Keen interest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills.
• Experience working with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent law school credentials and references.

Education and Certifications:

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field.
• Registration with the USPTO is required.
