Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a highly experienced Senior Biotechnology Patent Attorney to join their team in Oakland, CA. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge in life sciences, particularly in areas such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology. The role requires adeptness in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, with expertise in bioinformatics, chemistry, or materials science being advantageous. The candidate must be capable of working independently while demonstrating strong client management skills.

Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications in the biotechnology field.
• Conduct thorough research and analysis of scientific literature and patent databases.
• Collaborate with inventors, scientists, and legal teams to identify patentable inventions.
• Provide legal advice and guidance on patent matters, including infringement analysis and patent portfolio management.
• Draft legal documents, including patent applications, responses to office actions, and legal opinions.
• Conduct due diligence reviews of intellectual property assets.
• Keep abreast of developments in patent law and biotechnology.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a life science field such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, preferably in biotechnology.
• Expertise in bioinformatics, chemistry, or materials science is a plus.
• Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations, particularly in the United States.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Membership in a state bar association and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life science field such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology.

Certifications:
