Insurance Coverage Litigation Attorney

Profile

A law firm in Portland, Oregon is seeking an experienced Insurance Coverage Litigation Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in Oregon and Washington with various insurance issues that policyholders encounter in business transactions, such as corporate and asset sales and acquisitions, and other contractual arrangements incorporating risk transfer provisions. They should also have experience with insurance applications, presentation and negotiation of coverage claims, and litigation and resolution of coverage disputes. Demonstrated competence in policy and other contract analysis, legal research, factual investigation and discovery, negotiation, litigation, and other dispute resolution strategies is essential. The candidate must possess strong communication and writing skills, good judgment, analytical ability, and the ability to work in a team environment. Some portable client base is required, and candidates must be a member of the Oregon State Bar Association or eligible for reciprocity. A Washington State Bar and/or California State Bar license is a plus. The position requires 7+ years of experience.

Duties:

• Handle a broad range of insurance coverage matters for policyholders.
• Analyze insurance policies and other contracts to determine coverage rights and obligations.
• Conduct legal research, factual investigation, and discovery related to insurance coverage issues.
• Negotiate with insurers on behalf of policyholders to maximize coverage.
• Represent clients in insurance coverage disputes in state and federal courts.
• Draft complex dispositive motions, court submissions, and settlement agreements.
• Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on insurance-related matters.
• Collaborate with colleagues and support staff on insurance coverage cases.
• Maintain communication with clients to provide updates and guidance.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in Oregon (Membership in the Oregon State Bar Association required) or eligible for reciprocity.
• 7+ years of experience in insurance coverage litigation.
• Practical experience with insurance issues in business transactions.
• Demonstrated competence in policy and contract analysis, legal research, and negotiation.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Good judgment and analytical ability.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Portable client base is preferred.
• Washington State Bar and/or California State Bar license (a plus).
