Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Environmental Associate Attorney to join its Environment and Energy practice group. This position is ideal for candidates with 1 to 5 years of experience in environmental, administrative, or natural resources law. The role will focus on regulatory compliance, environmental permitting, administrative matters, and environmental litigation support. This is a strong opportunity for attorneys looking to grow in a highly collaborative and complex regulatory practice.
Location:
Kansas City, Missouri
Duties:
Advise clients on federal and state environmental regulations and compliance strategies
Assist with permitting, enforcement defense, and regulatory counseling related to environmental statutes
Handle matters involving hazardous and solid waste, air and water quality, and remediation
Draft legal memoranda, regulatory filings, and position papers
Conduct legal research and analysis of evolving environmental policies and administrative rulings
Support litigation matters, including preparation of pleadings, discovery, and motion practice
Engage with federal and state environmental agencies on behalf of clients
Contribute to natural resources development matters including land use and permitting issues
Requirements:
1–5 years of relevant experience in environmental, administrative, or natural resources law preferred
Candidates without experience must demonstrate substantial academic coursework or internships in environmental law
Familiarity with key federal environmental statutes (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA, CERCLA)
Litigation experience is a plus
Strong desire to build a long-term career in environmental practice
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Admission to the bar in Colorado or Missouri, or ability to obtain admission promptly
Skills:

Analytical thinking and a detail-oriented approach
Strong oral and written communication
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Interest in regulatory and administrative law and policy development
