Job Overview:
A well-established and growing law firm is actively seeking a passionate and experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join its legal team in Northern Illinois. This position involves managing a caseload of felony, misdemeanor, ordinance, and traffic-related matters from start to finish. The role is suited for a proactive, courtroom-ready attorney who is committed to helping clients navigate the complexities of the legal system with professionalism, empathy, and diligence.
Location:

Duties:
Conduct client intake and legal strategy sessions to understand case goals
Represent clients in felony, misdemeanor, ordinance, conservation violation, and traffic cases
Draft and review legal documents including motions, pleadings, and discovery
Conduct legal research and case analysis to formulate defense strategies
Appear in municipal, county, and village courts for hearings and trials
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide legal counsel throughout the case
Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to manage cases effectively
Handle administrative and case-related responsibilities as needed
Requirements:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Licensed to practice law in Illinois (active and in good standing)
Reliable transportation for travel to various court locations
Willingness to manage a fast-paced and emotionally sensitive caseload
Ability to work independently and as part of a legal team
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required
Certifications:
Active Illinois Bar license
Skills:
Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills
Effective oral advocacy and courtroom presence
Ability to manage multiple active cases under tight deadlines
Excellent interpersonal communication and client-relations skills
Knowledge of legal strategies and ability to tailor defense plans to individual clients
Experience with legal software and office applications
Professional demeanor with strong organizational and time-management abilities
Experience as a prosecutor or work in a State’s Attorney’s Office is a plus
