Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Special Counsel with 5-10 years of experience to join its Insurance Team in Los Angeles. Exceptional candidates in other California locations may also be considered. The team represents major insurers in complex litigation across California and nationwide, handling class action defense and insurance bad faith matters.

Duties

• Defend insurers in complex litigation, including class action defense.
• Handle insurance bad faith and extracontractual matters.
• Engage in motion practice and legal writing, including dispositive and complex discovery motions.
• Manage matters in state and federal courts, including discovery strategy and depositions.
• Independently manage projects while collaborating within a team environment.

Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience in insurer-side litigation.
• Experience in class action defense and bad faith litigation.
• Coverage experience is a plus.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical abilities.
• Admitted and in good standing with the State Bar of California.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• State Bar of California admission.

Skills

• Excellence in motion practice and legal writing.
• Experience with appellate matters is a plus.
• Ability to manage discovery strategy and depositions.
