Job Overview
A highly respected insurance defense law firm is seeking a Senior Attorney with 3–6 years of experience in general liability matters to join its team in Buffalo, NY. This hybrid position provides an opportunity to work on a diverse caseload involving personal injury, premises liability, and construction accident cases. The ideal candidate will bring strong litigation and trial skills, with the ability to work independently and mentor junior legal staff in a collaborative environment.

Location

Duties

• Represent clients in general liability matters, including personal injury and premises liability cases

• Manage cases from inception through resolution

• Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and other legal filings

• Conduct legal research and factual investigations

• Prepare for and conduct depositions, hearings, and trials

• Handle settlement negotiations and participate in mediation/arbitration

• Provide strategic legal counsel and risk assessment to clients

• Collaborate with insurance adjusters, experts, and other stakeholders

• Stay current on developments in insurance defense and liability law

• Mentor junior associates and legal staff

Requirements

• 3–6 years of experience in insurance defense with a focus on general liability and tort law

• Proven experience managing a full litigation caseload

• Demonstrated trial or trial-preparation experience

• Ability to work independently with moderate supervision

• Strong client interaction and negotiation skills

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

• Active member of the New York State Bar

• Admission to additional Bars (NJ, CT, PA) is a plus

Skills

• In-depth knowledge of New York liability law and insurance defense practices

• Proficiency in legal drafting and discovery procedures

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong organizational and time management abilities

• Comfortable with litigation technology and case management software

• Ability to assess complex legal issues and present clear case strategies

Preferred Skills

• Experience in construction accident, product liability, or medical malpractice cases

• Background in working with insurance carriers or in-house legal teams

• Familiarity with high-volume caseload management

• Interest and experience in trial advocacy
