Job Overview:
A prominent international law firm is seeking a full-time, USPTO-registered Patent Agent to join its Electronics & Software practice group. This position involves the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of cutting-edge software technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, a proven track record in patent prosecution, and a commitment to excellence in client service and intellectual property strategy.

Location:

• Raleigh, NC

Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications focused on software-related innovations

• Collaborate with attorneys, inventors, and clients to develop intellectual property strategies

• Conduct patentability, prior art, and freedom-to-operate analyses

• Review invention disclosures and advise clients on patent-related matters

• Provide support in patent portfolio management and client counseling

• Submit required documentation such as academic transcripts and writing samples when requested

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience

• Familiarity with USPTO rules and procedures

• Demonstrated experience in software and digital technology sectors

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex projects independently

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant technical field such as:

  • Computer Science

  • Computer Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Mathematics

  • Physics

Certifications:

• Active registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO Reg. No. required)

Skills:

• Technical experience or education in areas including:

  • Cloud computing

  • Security and encryption

  • Bioinformatics

  • Mobile applications

  • Databases

  • Networking technologies

• Strong legal writing and patent drafting skills
