Junior/Mid-Level Risk Management amp Insurance Associate

Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Associate with 2–4 years of legal experience in risk management and insurance to join its Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution department. This role presents an excellent opportunity to work on diverse insurance matters involving both transactional and claims-based work. Candidates should bring strong insurance coverage knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a desire to develop deep legal expertise. This position is being sourced by a legal recruiting agency on behalf of the hiring firm.

Location:

• Santa Monica, CA

Duties:

• Handle a wide array of legal matters in risk management and insurance

• Negotiate and place both standard and custom insurance programs

• Monitor and manage claims across various insurance lines

• Provide legal counsel on coverage issues including:

  • Directors & Officers (D&O)

  • Errors & Omissions (E&O)

  • Cyber insurance

  • Transactional insurance

• Draft and review insurance contracts, coverage opinions, and legal memoranda

• Collaborate with attorneys across different departments and locations

• Contribute to strategic problem-solving on complex insurance challenges

• Serve as an internal advisor on firm-wide insurance matters

Requirements:

• 2–4 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal department

• Strong knowledge of foundational insurance coverage concepts

• Familiarity with the U.S. insurance marketplace and regulatory trends

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment

• Excellent legal writing and oral communication skills

• Interest in developing specialized knowledge in insurance law

• Commitment to client service and strategic legal thinking

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

• Demonstrated academic excellence

Certifications:

• Admission to a U.S. state bar or eligibility for prompt admission

Skills:

• Legal research, analysis, and drafting

• Strategic negotiation and problem resolution

• Communication and interpersonal effectiveness
