Job Overview:
A respected national law firm is seeking a Bankruptcy Associate Attorney to join its growing bankruptcy practice group in Chicago, IL. This position is ideal for a motivated attorney with 1 to 5 years of experience in bankruptcy law, including representation of debtors, creditors, landlords, and supply chain stakeholders. The successful candidate will support transactional and litigation matters, while engaging in complex business workouts and restructurings. Duties:
Represent business debtors, creditors, landlords, and other interested parties in Chapter 11 proceedings and related litigation
Assist in bankruptcy-related transactions, business workouts, and corporate restructurings
Draft pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda for bankruptcy court filings
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on bankruptcy and commercial law matters
Participate in court hearings and other bankruptcy proceedings
Review and analyze business records and financial statements relevant to restructuring matters
Advise clients on creditor rights, the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and insolvency strategies
Support senior attorneys and collaborate with cross-practice teams on case strategy
Requirements:
1–5 years of experience in bankruptcy and restructuring law
Familiarity with the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and Uniform Commercial Code
Prior experience representing parties in bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings
Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities
A proactive and collaborative approach to client service and case development
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois or eligible for admission without examination
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
Strong academic credentials required
Certifications:
Admission to the Illinois State Bar (or eligibility for admission by motion)
Skills:
Advanced legal research and writing proficiency
Solid understanding of commercial transactions and creditor-debtor relations
Ability to analyze complex legal and financial issues
Comfortable working independently or in collaborative legal teams
