Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate with a technical background in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science to join its Intellectual Property Practice Group. This hybrid-position offers the opportunity to work on complex patent matters, with a focus on technologies such as filtration, polymers, material science, and medical devices. The associate will support a growing team in providing high-quality patent prosecution services for a broad client base in a collaborative, client-focused environment.
Location:

Duties:
Prepare and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications
Work with clients in industries related to filtration, material science, polymers, and medical devices
Analyze technical disclosures and conduct patentability searches
Draft responses to USPTO office actions
Assist with opinion work, portfolio strategy, and due diligence
Collaborate with team members across offices and practice areas
Requirements:
1–3 years of experience in patent prosecution
Demonstrated experience with chemical and mechanical technologies
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Desire to work in a team-oriented, client-service environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field
Certifications:
Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar
Skills:
Strong technical writing and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
Attention to detail and precision in legal drafting
Experience conducting patent searches is a plus
Familiarity with patent landscape analysis and strategic counseling
