Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate with a technical background in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science to join its Intellectual Property Practice Group. This hybrid-position offers the opportunity to work on complex patent matters, with a focus on technologies such as filtration, polymers, material science, and medical devices. The associate will support a growing team in providing high-quality patent prosecution services for a broad client base in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Location:

  • Wilmington, DE

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications

  • Work with clients in industries related to filtration, material science, polymers, and medical devices

  • Analyze technical disclosures and conduct patentability searches

  • Draft responses to USPTO office actions

  • Assist with opinion work, portfolio strategy, and due diligence

  • Collaborate with team members across offices and practice areas

Requirements:

  • 1–3 years of experience in patent prosecution

  • Demonstrated experience with chemical and mechanical technologies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Desire to work in a team-oriented, client-service environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar

Skills:

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines

  • Attention to detail and precision in legal drafting

  • Experience conducting patent searches is a plus

  • Familiarity with patent landscape analysis and strategic counseling
