Job Title: Trusts And Estates Partner

Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm in New York City is seeking a senior-level Trusts & Estates Partner with an established practice to enhance its thriving private client group. This role is designed for a highly experienced legal professional whose current work complements and builds upon the firm’s long-standing trust and estate offerings. With succession planning in motion among existing senior attorneys, the new partner will be well-positioned to transition into a leadership role within the department.

Duties:

• Lead and expand an existing Trusts & Estates practice with an emphasis on high-net-worth clients and multi-generational family planning

• Handle complex trust and estate planning, administration, tax mitigation strategies, and succession planning for family-owned enterprises

• Provide strategic guidance in charitable giving, international estate structures, and fiduciary matters

• Engage in trust and estate-related litigation and conflict resolution

• Collaborate cross-functionally with tax, corporate, real estate, employee benefits, and litigation teams to deliver full-service client solutions

• Cultivate and maintain client relationships that span generations

• Oversee and mentor junior legal staff, with the opportunity to bring an associate onboard

• Participate in strategic planning to support the long-term growth of the department

Requirements:

• Substantial portable practice with an independent book of business

• Ability to integrate and grow within an established platform with minimal short-term reliance on internal referrals

• Entrepreneurial drive to build and mentor a lean team, including potential for associate-level hiring

• Interest in assuming a prominent role in departmental succession planning

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing

Skills:

• Mastery of federal and state estate, gift, and income tax law

• Deep knowledge of complex estate structures, including GRATs, SLATs, QPRTs, IDGTs, and similar vehicles

• Strategic thinking with strong business acumen and relationship-building capability

• Empathetic interpersonal communication skills for navigating sensitive family dynamics

• Leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and develop talent
