Job Title: Litigation Attorney

Job Overview:
A Virginia Beach-based law firm is seeking a highly experienced Litigation Attorney to take on a leadership role as Chair of its Litigation Department. This position calls for a strategic thinker with substantial civil litigation experience, demonstrated courtroom success, and a collaborative mindset. The role offers the opportunity to directly manage a diverse caseload, provide mentorship to legal support staff, and guide litigation initiatives within a firm committed to innovative, client-centered advocacy and a culture of continuous learning.

Duties:

• Lead the litigation department and oversee case strategy and execution

• Manage a docket of 30–60 cases from inception to trial or resolution

• Represent clients independently in the general district and circuit courts

• Handle all aspects of litigation, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and trials

• Maintain consistent and professional client communication

• Mentor paralegals and junior attorneys within the firm

• Coordinate with attorneys across practice groups to deliver integrated legal services

• Contribute to the strategic growth and development of the litigation practice

Requirements:

• Active license to practice law in Virginia and good standing

• Civil litigation experience, with full case handling responsibility

• Demonstrated trial experience and courtroom proficiency

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently

• Familiarity with Virginia’s civil procedure and litigation timelines

• Comfortable working in a paperless or tech-integrated legal environment

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the Virginia State Bar (Required)

Skills:

• Exceptional legal writing and oral advocacy abilities

• Advanced organizational and time management skills

• Strong interpersonal skills for team and client interactions

• Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software

• Knowledge in estate and trust matters, real estate, title law, or business law is a plus
