Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm located in Cleveland, OH, is actively seeking an experienced attorney to join its ERISA and Employee Benefits practice group. The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation in employee benefits law, with a particular emphasis on transactional matters and executive compensation. This opportunity is suited for professionals aiming to contribute to a dynamic legal team that serves a diverse client base from closely held businesses to large corporations.

Duties:

• Guide the design, implementation, and administration of qualified retirement plans, health and welfare benefit plans, and executive compensation arrangements

• Advise clients on compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and related federal statutes

• Support ESOP transactions and provide ongoing counsel to existing ESOPs

• Draft plan documents, amendments, and employee communications

• Counsel on fiduciary duties, prohibited transaction issues, and plan corrections

• Analyze legal implications of benefits issues in M&A and corporate transactions

• Collaborate with internal legal teams and external advisors on complex benefit structuring

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of focused experience in a law firm setting on ERISA and employee benefits matters

• Familiarity with both retirement and health/welfare benefit plans, including non-qualified plans

• Strong knowledge of federal laws regulating benefit plans, including ERISA and IRC provisions

• Demonstrated experience with ESOP transactions is highly preferred

• Ability to independently manage client matters and multitask effectively

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in Ohio (or ability to obtain through reciprocity or examination)

Skills:

• Excellent legal research and writing proficiency

• Strong interpersonal communication, both written and oral

• Strategic thinking with attention to detail

• Capable of delivering high-quality work within tight timelines

• Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines
