The Law Office of Surprenant, Beneski & Nunes is an Estate Planning & Elder Law Firm that assists clients in creating foundational documents, planning for asset protection, tax minimization and probate avoidance. We also offer services for probate & estate administration, special needs and long-term care planning (both advance and crisis planning).

We are currently seeking a seasoned, detail-oriented attorney to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for an attorney at the later stage of their career who wishes to continue practicing law in a supportive, collaborative environment without the demands of a full client-facing caseload.

Position Overview:
The Associate Attorney will primarily focus on drafting and reviewing legal documents across all three of the firm’s practice areas – Estate Planning, Medicaid Planning, and Estate Administration. They will work closely with the legal team to ensure documents are accurate, complete, and aligned with client goals and firm standards. This position also involves partnering with legal support staff to manage case timelines, workflows, and internal processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review core estate planning documents, including Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, HIPAA Releases, and Wills.
  • Prepare and review real estate-related documents, such as Deeds, Declarations of Homestead, and Certificates of Trustee.
  • Draft and assist with more complex trust planning strategies for asset protection, tax minimization, and probate avoidance.
  • Support the legal team in probate and estate administration cases through preparation of petitions, inventories, accountings, and related court filings.
  • Work with support staff to maintain deadlines, manage workflows, and ensure the smooth progress of client matters.
  • Conduct legal research as needed and contribute to the development of internal templates, processes, and systems for efficiency.
  • Maintain high attention to detail to ensure the highest quality of document production.
  • Provide occasional support for business development initiatives through document preparation and internal projects.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the Massachusetts Bar.
  • 10+ years of legal practice, with significant experience in estate planning, elder law, or related fields.
  • Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently while collaborating with a supportive team.
  • Comfortable working with technology tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software (e.g., Clio).

Why Join Us?

  • Flexible part-time schedule (minimum 20 hours/week, with flexibility to adjust as needed).
  • Opportunity to continue practicing law meaningfully without a full-time client caseload.
  • A collaborative, respectful team environment.
  • Focus on technical excellence and client service without sales or marketing pressure.
  • Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
  • Healthy work-life balance.
