Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a skilled and proactive Litigation Attorney to join its Personal Injury team in Los Angeles, CA. This position involves managing all phases of litigation, from case evaluation to trial, while collaborating with internal departments and guiding support staff. The role provides a dynamic and supportive work environment where your legal expertise and client advocacy skills can thrive.

Duties:

• Manage a caseload of approximately 60 litigation files with support from assigned team members and firm staff.
• Oversee case investigations, including pre-litigation and litigation matters.
• Draft and file legal documents such as complaints, discovery responses, and motions.
• Conduct legal research and draft correspondence to opposing counsel regarding discovery issues.
• Attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and other court appearances.
• Retain and prepare medical and legal experts for depositions and trials.
• Engage in case strategy discussions, valuation assessments, and early resolution planning.
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, medical management, and strategies.
• Prepare for and try cases to verdict, including creating trial documents, motions in limine, and outlines for witness examinations.
• Collaborate with and supervise support staff, including litigation secretaries.
• Conduct monthly file reviews to ensure case progress and compliance with deadlines.

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of medical and legal experts, mediators, judges, and arbitrators.
• Experience settling cases and negotiating medical liens.
• Understanding of statutes, health insurance issues (Medi-Cal, Medi-Care, Kaiser, etc.), and litigation strategy.
• Ability to evaluate case value, identify high- or low-value cases, and make decisions on case direction.
• Proficiency in managing and preparing cases for trial.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in the state of California and good standing with the California State Bar.

Skills:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Initiative, compassion, and the ability to work effectively with clients.
• Familiarity with employment law and workers’ compensation terminology.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
